There are about 40,000 interior design businesses in the United States. Some are large firms but many are small and strive to serve individual homeowners who have a specific budget. Yet the available research shows that only 15% of those who have a project large enough to warrant the services of a professional designer actually retain one, and the manufacturers of furniture and other products for the home are asking why.
